About me: Sewing Workshops

Last year I started hosting weekly sewing workshops for a neighbor that was looking to learn how to use her Sewing/Embroidery combo machine.

She has been a great advertiser for me!

Several people asked her if I would open my workshops for more people. It seems with the changes in our economy, more people are wanting to get back to basics and learn how to sew.

A little about my sewing background.
First I am not a seamstress, I think of myself as a "sewist", my workshops are focused on more craft type creations instead of garments.

I learned to sew in Home-EC in the mid-1970's in school. I have sewn garments over the years, but most of my sewing these days are more craft based.

In 2020 I was making masks for a local hospital until they were able to get their PPE back in stock, then sewed masks for the Navajo nation to assist them with their PPE needs.

Periodically, I get requests to create an item for family or friends. One of the favorites is a Bowl Cozy.

Once the need for PPE slowed down, I had a bit of fabric left, I started learning machine embroidery, and opened a small E-comm store embroidering small gift items. Which did okay for a while until the shift in the economy. Since then I have shifted my direction to embroidery for local customers and in-person sewing workshops.

My workshops start with learning the sewing machine basics: Threading, winding bobbins, basic stitching, removing stitches, and making a simple insulated coaster.

I have a few different machines so a student can experience some of the differences of a mechanical, electronic, a computerized machine and a serger. If someone comes across an older machine with a front load bobbin, or they are going to purchase their first machine, they can have hands on experience to decide what kind of machine they may want.

I have several workshops available, they will be scheduled as there is interest in them.

In addition of my small group sewing workshops, I offer one-on-one sessions, that may have more flexible scheduling.
